This invention relates to a variable capacitance, oblique spindle type hydraulic machine which supports the reaction of oil pressure acting on a cylinder block (8) by a radial static pressure bearing (23) or by a thrust static pressure bearing (28). This hydraulic machine delivers a high pressure oil in accordance with an angle of inclination of a cylinder block (8) by variable throttle means (34, 37, 51, 54) or control valves (77, 78). The high pressure oil thus delivered is supplied to the radial static pressure bearing (23) or to the thrust static pressure bearing (28). Accordingly, static pressure support capacity is exhibited in accordance with the angle of inclination of the cylinder block (8), a spindle can be supported stably and a leakage flow rate can be minimized.
