Polyester fiberfill is provided with a slickener coating of an improved copolyester, the improvements being that the copolyester is modified so as to contain polar groups that provide sites that are susceptible to a cross-linking-type reaction, e.g. hydroxyl groups and quaternary ammonium and amine groups, and the resulting materials that have been subjected to such cross-linking-type reaction, whereby the durability of the coating on the fiberfill is improved in comparison with like but unmodified copolymers, and wherein other advantages are obtained. As cross-linking agents are mentioned: polycarboxylic acid, N-hydroxymethyl compounds or polyvalent metal compounds.

Une fibre de rembourrage en polyester possède un enrobage lissant en copolyester amélioré, les améliorations consistant en ce que le copolyester est modifié de manière à contenir des groupes polaires formant des sites qui sont susceptibles à une réaction de réticulation, par exemple des groupes hydroxyles et des groupes amine et ammonium quaternaires. Les matériaux obtenus sont soumis à cette réaction de réticulation qui permet de prolonger la vie du revêtement sur la fibre de rembourrage par rapport à des copolymères similaires mais non modifiés, cette modification permettant d'obtenir d'autres avantages. En tant qu'agents de réticulation, l'acide polycarboxylique, des composés N hydroxyméthyle ou des composés de métaux polyvalents sont utilisés.
