Abstract

novel, non-combustible thin coating, applied as an air-setting paint, is used to form a coherent fire-barrier on or between susceptible wood or plastic substrates, or other substances. Consisting of a paint-like slurry of three separate but compatible and mutually synergistic co-bonding systems, viz. magnesium "oxycloride" cement, plus high alumina mono-calcium aluminate cement, plus colloidal silica dispersed in dimethyl formamide (DMF), and utilizing an aqueous solution of magnesium chloride as the common hydration fluid for the two cements, the coating retains its structural integrity through prolonged exposure to flame temperatures of 2000oF. The coating acts as a thermal radiation reflector for the high radiation component of most flames, used alone, or in combination with structural reinforcing geotextiles, such as non-woven spunbonded polyester fabric or woven and non-woven fiberglass or other natural or synthetic fabrics to form a laminate.

Un nouveau revêtement mince, non conductible, appliqué sous la forme d'une ceinture séchant à l'air, est utilisé pour former une barrière uniforme de protection contre le feu sur ou entre des substrats en bois ou en plastique ou autres substances. Consistant en une boue semblable à une teinture comprenant trois systèmes séparés mais compatibles de coliaisons mutuellement synergiques, à savoir du ciment d'"oxychlorure" de magnésium, plus du ciment d'aluminate de monocalcium à haute teneur en alumine, plus de la silice colloïdale dispersée dans de la formamide diméthylique (DMF) et utilisant une solution aqueuse de chlorure de magnésium en tant que fluide d'hydratation commun aux 2 ciments, le revêtement garde son intégrité structurale lors d'une exposition prolongée à des températures de combustion de 2000oF. Le revêtement joue le rôle d'un réflecteur de radiations thermiques pour la composante de radiation élevée de la plupart des flammes, lorsqu'il est utilisé seul, ou combiné à des géotextiles de renforcement structural tels que du tissu polyester non tissé spunbonded ou de la fibre de verre tissée et non tissée ou autre tissu naturel ou synthétique pour former un laminé.
