Abstract:
(EN) A squeeze formed aluminium alloy article, such as a piston, is formed with a re-entrant cavity (14) with reinforced edges by locating an isostatically compacted salt core (10) and annular alumina-silicate fibre pad (11) in the mould cavity of the squeeze forming press prior to introduction of the molten metal therein. The core (14) is subsequently dissolved from the squeeze formed article to provide a reinforced corresponding shape to the article which does not require subsequent machining.
(FR) Un article en alliage d'aluminium formé par compression, tel un piston, présente une cavité rentrante (14) pourvue de bords renforcés et obtenue en disposant un noyau de sel compacté de manière isostatique (10) et un coussinet annulaire de fibres de silicate d'alumine (11) dans la cavité de moule de la presse de formage par compression, avant d'y introduire le métal en fusion. Le noyau (14) est éliminé ensuite en le dissolvant de l'article formé par compression, donnant à l'article une forme renforcée correspondante ne requérant pas d'usinage successif.
