Abstract

Welding system having automatic groove tracking and adaptive groove filling capabilities. Data produced by a coordinated laser spot projector (1O^/, 12) and TV-scanner (12) combination is determined to an Intel 8O^/85 computer (28) to provide a substantially continous analysis of groove locations in a three-axis coordinate system as well as groove depth and area. Location information is fed to an LSI-11 computer (38) to control the tracking function through coordinate axis servo-type drives (46) and to control a fourth-axis or "swing" function which provides freedom between the welding torch (14) and the optical system (1O^/, 12) which leads the torch by several inches. The groove depth and are information is also fed to the LSI-11 to control the welding parameters, i.e.; deposition rate and voltage and produce the desired weld along the groove.

Système de soudage possédant un suivi de sillon automatique et des capacités adaptatives de remplissage de sillon. Les données produites par un projecteur de laser focalisé coordonné (10) et par un scanner de télévision (12) combinés sont traitées par un ordinateur Intel 8085 (28) pour obtenir une analyse sensiblement continue des emplacements des sillons dans un système de coordonnées à trois axes ainsi que la profondeur et la surface du sillon. Les informations relatives à l'emplacement sont envoyées à un ordinateur LSI-11 (38) pour commander la fonction de suivi de piste par l'intermédiaire de dispositif d'entraînement par axe de coordonnées du type asservi (46) et pour commander une fonction de quatrième axe ou de "basculement" assurant une liberté entre le chalumeau de soudage (14) et le système optique (10, 12) qui le précède de quelques pouces. Les informations relatives à la profondeur et à la surface du sillon sont également envoyées au LSI-11 pour commander les paramètres de soudage, c'est-à-dire la vitesse de dépôt et la tension, afin de produire la soudure désirée le long du sillon.
