Magneto-optic transducer apparatus of a rotating form reads high-frequency information recorded on a magnetic tape (18) in other than a longitudinal format. To read information recorded in a slant track format, the transducer apparatus includes a first optical fiber (41) for scanning a polarized light beam (46) along a path adjacent the tape from one tape edge towards the other edge during the transporting of the tape. A magneto-optic element (55) is arranged in the path of the light beam adjacent the tape, to modulate the light according to magnetization of the region of the tape adjacent the magneto-optic element as the light beam is scanned across the tape. A second optical fiber (42), optically coupled to the element (55), directs the modulated light to impinge on light-responsive apparatus (52, 58), which is arranged to produce an electrical signal that is functionnally related to the modulation of the light.

Un appareil transducteur magnéto-optique d'une forme rotative lit une information à haute fréquence enregistrée sur une bande magnétique (18) selon un format autre qu'un format longitudinal. Afin de lire une information enregistrée selon un format de piste oblique, l'appareil transducteur comporte une première fibre optique (41) pour balayer un faisceau de lumière polarisé (46) sur un parcours proche de la bande d'un bord de la bande à l'autre pendant le transport de ladite bande. Un élément magnéto-optique (55) est disposé sur le parcours du faisceau de lumière proche de la bande afin de moduler la lumière en fonction de la magnétisation de la région de la bande proche de l'élément magnéto-optique au fur et à mesure du balayage du faisceau de lumière sur la bande. Une seconde fibre optique (42), couplée optiquement à l'élément (55), dirige la lumière modulée pour la faire entrer en collision avec l'appareil sensible à la lumière (52, 58) qui est disposé de manière à produire un signal électrique apparenté fonctionnellement à la modulation de la lumière.
