Abstract

A fire window comprises a panel of Georgian wired glass suspended within a frame by suspension pins extending through holes drilled in the glass so that each pin lies within a complete mesh. When the panel is subject to the intense heat of a fire, the glass softens and sags, but remains suspended within the frame by means of the interaction between the wire mesh and the suspension pins.

Une fenêtre résistante au feu comprend un panneau en verre armé suspendu dans un cadre à l'aide d'ergots de suspension traversant des trous percés dans le verre, de manière que chaque ergot est situé au centre d'une maille entière. Lorsque le panneau est soumis à l'intense chaleur d'un incendie, le verre se ramollit et s'affaisse mais reste suspendu à l'intérieur du cadre grâce à l'interaction entre les mailles de l'armature et les goujons de suspension.
