A fluidized bed combustion apparatus, system and process in which the turbulent fluidized motion is imparted to the particles to be burned by mechanical means. The bed of combustible material (54) may be fluidized on a fluidizing support screen (18) which is vibrated by a motor drive (50). The fluidizing force may be directed so that, in addition to fluidizing the bed, it slowly moves the particles from a feed end of the bed to an ash or waste disposal end of the bed with combustion taking place during the travel from one end of the bed to the other. The degree of fluidization can be controlled by a master combustion control system (70). The air necessary to support combustion may be controlled by an inlet damper (30) or by a variable speed combustion air fan controlled by the master combustion control system as a ratio of the fuel input rate or desired firing rate. Stack gas analysis may be used to trim the combustion control system. The mechanically fluidized bed combustion apparatus, system and process of the invention achieves better control of firing rates and combustion air qualities with greater economical use in combustion units of various sizes.

Dispositif, systeme et procede de combustion a lit fluidise dans lequel le mouvement fluidise a turbulence est transmis aux particules a bruler par des moyens mecaniques. Le lit de materiau combustible (54) peut etre fluidise sur un ecran de support de fluidisation (18) mis en vibration par un moteur d'entrainement (50). La force de fluidisation peut etre dirigee de maniere telle que, outre la fluidisation du lit, elle deplace lentement les particules depuis une extremite d'alimentation du lit jusqu'a une extremite de decharge de dechets ou de cendres, la combustion ayant lieu pendant le deplacement d'une extremite du lit a l'autre extremite. Le degre de fluidisation peut etre commande par un systeme principal de commande de combustion (70). Le debit de l'air necessaire pour entretenir la combustion peut etre commande au moyen d'un amortisseur d'entree (30) ou par un ventilateur d'air de combustion a vitesse variable commande par le systeme principal de commande de combustion en fonction du regime d'entree du combustible ou du regime d'allumage desire Une analyse du gaz brule peut etre utilisee pour le reglage fin du systeme de commande de combustion. Le dispositif, le systeme et le procede de combustion a lit fluidise de maniere mecanique permet d'obtenir une meilleure commande des regimes d'allumage et de la qualite de l'air de combustion ainsi qu'une utilisation beaucoup plus economique dans des unites de combustion de tailles differentes.
