(EN)An improved lighting system (10) which in the preferred embodiment includes a cathode (12) having an external surface (34) being coated with a cathode outside film (40) for emitting electrons therefrom. A first anode (14) extends internal to the cathode (12) for heating the cathode (12) to thereby emit electrons from the external surface (34). A second anode (16) is positionally located external to the enclosed cathode (12) for accelerating the electrons emitted from the cathode external surface (34). A bulb member (18) encompasses the cathode (12), the first anode (14), and the second anode (16) in a hermetic type seal. The bulb member (18) has predetermined gas composition contained therein with the gas composition atoms being ionized by the cathode emitted electrons. The gas composition ionized atoms radiate in the ultraviolet bandwidth of the electromagnetic spectrum. The bulb member (18) is coated with a fluorescent material (20) for intercepting the ultraviolet energy responsive to the ionization of the gas composition atoms. The fluorescent material (20) radiates in the visible bandwidth of the electromagnetic spectrum to give a visible light output.
(FR)Un systeme d'eclairage ameliore (10) comprend dans le mode preferentiel de realisation une cathode (12) ayant une surface exterieure (34) recouverte d'un film exterieur cathodique (40) pour emettre des electrons a partir de ce dernier. Une premiere anode (14) s'etend a l'interieur de la cathode (12) pour chauffer la cathode (12) de maniere a emettre des electrons a partir de la surface exterieure (34). Une seconde anode (16) est positionnee a l'exterieur sur la cathode enfermee (12) pour accelerer les electrons emis depuis la surface exterieure cathodique (34). Une ampoule (18) entoure la cathode (12), la premiere anode (14) et la seconde anode (16) dans une enceinte hermetique. L'ampoule contient une composition gazeuse predeterminee dont les atomes de gaz sont ionises par les electrons emis par la cathode. Les atomes ionises de la composition gazeuse emettent dans la bande des ultra-violets du spectre electromagnetique. L'ampoule (18) est revetue d'un materiau fluorescent (20) pour intercepter l'energie ultra-violette sensible a l'ionisation des atomes de la composition gazeuse.
