(EN)A multilumen catheter (10) having passages (41-43) for the flow of gas, the enclosure of electrical leads and the transmission of fluids for injection or sampling. The gas transmitting lumen (42) also carries electrical leads (53) which extend to an electrical element (35) disposed within a passage-providing plug (45) located at a point spaced from the catheter's distal end. The plug blocks the entry of fluids into the catheter without at the same time interfering with the flow of gas therethrough. In one embodiment, the passage-providing plug (45) is at least partially pre-formed and is fitted into space (44) otherwise occupied by sections of adjacent lumens (42, 43), thereby allowing a relatively large electrical element (35) to be mounted within such space; in a second embodiment, the element (135) is mounted in a passage-providing plug (145) disposed within single lumen (142) and in a third embodiment, the element (235) is embedded in a passage-providing plug (245) which is formed in place. Methods for making the catheters are also disclosed.

Le canal de transmission de gaz (42) porte egalement des conducteurs electriques (53) qui alimentent un element electrique (35) dispose dans un manchon (45) formant un passage et situe a un emplacement espace de l'extremite distale du catheter. Le manchon bloque l'admission des fluides dans le catheter sans pour autant influencer la circulation du gaz qui le traverse. Dans un mode de realisation, le manchon (45) formant passage est au moins partiellement pre-forme et loge dans l'espace (44) qui, autrement, est occupe par des portions de canaux adjacents (42, 43), permettant ainsi le montage dans cet espace d'un element electrique (35) de dimensions relativement grandes. Dans un deuxieme mode de realisation, l'element (135) est monte dans un manchon (145) formant passage dispose dans un seul canal (142), et dans un troisieme mode de realisation, l'element (235) est noye dans un manchon (245) formant passage qui est forme sur place.
