(EN)A vertical shaft windmill which is characterized in that four air collecting plates (4-1, 4-2, 4-3 and 4-4) are equidistantly disposed vertically and radially of the windmill (1) for driving a prime mover, and inclined at substantially 45 with respect to the radial direction of the windmill (1) opposite to the rotating direction thereof so that the angle of one air collecting plate (4-1) is generally 30 with respect to the direction of the most frequent winds experienced at the site throughout one year. The plates (4-1, 4-2, 4-3 and 4-4) collect a wide range of winds to accelerate the speed of the winds, and thus operate the windmill. This affords an improvement in the power production efficiency of a Savonius windmill which was regarded as disadvantageous over a Darius windmill in view of its production cost and in view of its heavy weight attributable to large-sized blades, although the Savonius mill does possess various advantages such as a large starting torque, high strength against strong winds are quiet operation. Thus, the windmill of this invention offers high strength against strong winds and a less pronounced decline in efficiency even if the direction of the wind is slightly altered. The air collecting plates prevent rotational loss attributed to the blades (1-2). Since the plates (4-2 and 4-4) collect the wind and strong winds pass between the plates (4-3 and 4-4) and between the plates (4-1 and 4-2), the air accumulated behind the blades (1-2) is blown out by the strong winds to thus prevent rotational loss of the windmill (1).

Ceci permet d"ameliorer le rendement de la production d"electricite d"un moulin a vent Savonius que l"on considerait comme desavantageux par rapport a un moulin a vent Dargus en ce qui concerne son cout de production et son poids important du a ses pales de grandes envergures, bien que le moulin du type Savonius possede effectivement plusieurs avantages tels qu"un grand couple de demarrage, une resistance elevee aux vents forts et un fonctionnement silencieux. Ainsi, le moulin a vent de cette invention offre une grande resistance aux vents forts et une baisse de rendement moins prononcee meme si la direction du vent est legerement modifiee. Les plaques collectrices d"air evitent les pertes de rotation attribuees aux pales (1-2).
