(EN)Non-ferrous metal substrates such as aluminum are coated with a composition consisting essentially of a dispersion of colloidal titania particles in a water/polar organic solvent medium of a partial condensate formed by hydrolyzing a silane such as methyltrimethoxysilane in the presence of the colloidal titania particles and in the presence of a sufficient amount of an acid such as acetic acid to provide a pH in the range of from 2 to 6. Optionally, the composition can contain up to 20 weight percent of colloidal silica and/or up to 5 weight percent of other types of monoorganosilsesquioxanes based upon the total weight of solids in the composition. The coated substrates are heated until the coating cures, preferably at 50 C to 150 C, to form a transparent coating which renders the substrate more resistant to corrosion induced by acids or salts such as road salt or ocean spray.
(FR)Des substrats metalliques non ferreux tels que l'aluminium sont revetus d'une composition consistant essentiellement en une dispersion de particules de bioxyde de titane colloidal dans un milieu solvant organique polaire/eau d'un condensat partiel forme par hydrolyse d'un silane tel que le methyle trimethoxysilane en presence de particules de bioxyde de titane colloidal et en presence d'une quantite suffisante d'un acide tel que l'acide acetique pour obtenir un pH compris entre 2 et 6. Eventuellement, la composition peut contenir jusqu'a 20% en poids de silice colloidale et/ou jusqu'a 5% en poids d'autres types de monoorganosilsesquioxanes calcules sur le poids total de solides dans la composition. Les substrats revetus sont chauffes jusqu'a ce que le revetement se polymerise, de preference a une temperature comprise entre 50 C et 150 C, pour former un revetement transparent qui rend le substrat plus resistant a la corrosion induite par des acides ou des sels tels que le sel repandu sur la route ou l'ecume des oceans.
