Abstract

A power drive line in which a continuously variable, nutating traction drive transmission unit (16) is combined with a single planetary gear set (84, 86 and 88) to provide two forward modes and a reverse mode of drive line operation. A pair of transmission unit input shafts (18 and 20) are alternately coupled to a power input to the overall drive line. In one forward mode, the planet gear (86) is driven by the sun gear (84) to rotate the ring gear (88) in a relatively wide low speed range of speed ratios. In another forward mode, the transmission body (52) carrying the planet gear (86) is connected to be driven directly by the drive line power input to effect a relatively high range of output speeds for a given input speed. In the reverse mode, the body (52) carrying the planet gear (86) is held against planetary movement so that the planet gear (86) operates as a reversing idler between the sun gear input (84) and the ring gear output (88).

Ligne de transmission de puissance dans laquelle une unite de transmission de traction de nutation, continuellement variable (16) est combinee a un ensemble d"engrenages planetaires simples (84, 86 et 88) pour donner deux modes en marche avant et un mode en marche arriere de fonctionnement de la ligne d"entrainement. Une paire d"arbres d"entrees de l"unite de transmission (18 et 20) sont couples alternativement a une entree de puissance sur la ligne d"entrainement general. Dans un mode de marche avant, l"engrenage planetaire (86) est entraine par l"engrenage planetaire (84) pour faire tourner l"engrenage annulaire (88) dans une plage relativement grande de rapport de faible vitesse. Dans un autre mode de marche avant, le corps de transmission (52) portant l"engrenage planetaire (86) est connecte pour etre entraine directement par l"entree de puissance de la ligne d"entrainement pour obtenir une plage relativement elevee de vitesses de sortie pour une vitesse d"entree donnee. Dans le mode de marche arriere, le corps (52) portant l"engrenage planetaire (86) est empeche d"avoir un mouvement planetaire de sorte que l"engrenage planetaire (86) fonctionne comme un pignon fou d"inversion entre l"entree de l"engrenage planetaire (84) et la sortie de l"engrenage annulaire (88).
