(EN)An adsorbant wide pore (preferably mesoporous) carbon having a very regular arrangement of pores and consequently pathways defined by the pores have low tortuosities. The carbon comprises a form-stable assembly of carbon particles in which the particles are closed packed arrangements based on cubic and/or hexagonal close packing. Also a method for making these carbons which comprises forming a colloidal dispersion of particles of carbonisable polymer and depositing the particles under conditions such that their mutual repulsive forces guide them into a regularly packed deposit. The deposit is at least partially degraded to render it form-stable and then it is fully carbonised to produce the adsorbant carbon. Preferably the deposit is heated to 700 to 3000 C to close micropores and sinter contiguous particles.
(FR)Un charbon adsorbant (de preference mesoporeux) a larges pores presente une disposition tres reguliere des pores et par consequent les passages definis par les pores sont peu tortueux. Le charbon se compose d'un ensemble de formes stables de particules de charbon disposees en paquets serres cubiques et/ou hexagonaux. Un procede de fabrication de ces charbons consiste a former une dispersion coloidale de particules d'un polymere carbonisable et a deposer les particules dans des conditions telles que leur force de repulsion mutuelle les guide pour prendre la forme d'un depot a tassement regulier. Le depot est au moins partiellement degrade pour lui donner une forme stable puis il est entierement carbonise pour produire le charbon adsorbant. De preference le depot est chauffe a une temperature comprise entre 700 et 3000 C pour fermer les micropores et fritter les particules contigues.
