(EN)An esophageal cardiac pulse probe (10) includes a lumen (12) for insertion into the esophagus, the end of the lumen preferably being closed by a flexible diaphragm (24). Pressure variations imparted to the fluid within the lumen in response to sounds from the heart and the lungs are transmitted to an electrical transducer (46) which produces an electrical signal proportional to the time-varying frequency and intensity of the pressure variations. This signal is selectively filtered (60, 62) to effectively eliminate signal components due to respiratory noise and audible heart sounds and the resulting signal is fed to an appropriate visual display apparatus (68). Direct acoustic cardiac sound monitoring is also achievable with an earpiece (50) connected to the lumen (12). Several probe geometries and a method of cardiac pulse waveform monitoring are also disclosed.
(FR)Sonde (10) oesophagienne d'impulsion cardiaque comprenant un passage (12) servant a l'insertion dans l'oesophage, l'extremite du passage etant de preference fermee par un diaphragme flexible (24). Des variations de pression exercees sur le fluide a l'interieur du passage en fonction des sons provenant du coeur et des poumons sont transmises a un transducteur electrique (46) qui produit un signal electrique proportionnel a la frequence et a l'intensite variable avec le temps des variations de pression. Ce signal est filtre de maniere selective (60, 62) pour eliminer de maniere efficace les composantes du signal dues aux bruits respiratoires et aux sons cardiaques audibles et le signal resultant est envoye a un dispositif d'affichage visuel approprie (68). Un controle direct acoustique du son cardiaque est aussi possible au moyen d'un auriculaire (50) connecte au passage (12). Plusieurs geometries de sondes et un procede de controle de la forme d'onde des impulsions cardiaques sont aussi decrits.
