(EN)This invention relates to glass filament production. Conventionally the hollow cooling tubes and/or solid metal bars utilized in the making of continuous glass fibers have been constructed of high temperature corrosion resistant materials whose costs are exorbitant for extensive present day factory operations. The present invention dramatically reduces the price of cooling tubes (24) suitable for use in the making of glass filaments by coating or cladding a relatively inexpensive base or substrate metal (48) such as nickel, Inconel, molybdenum copper, alloys thereof or a refractory material with a high temperature corrosion resistant material (50) such as the noble metals, e.g. platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, gold, silver or alloys thereof. Fins (52) which may be attached to the cooling tubes (24) may be made either of a solid noble metal or may also be coated or clad in the same manner as the cooling tubes (24).

En general, les tubes de refroidissement creux et/ou les barres de metal solide utilises dans la fabrication continue de fibres de verre ont ete construits avec des materiaux resistant a la corrosion a temperature elevee dont les couts sont exorbitants pour les productions industrielles actuelles extensives. La presente invention reduit considerablement le prix des tubes de refroidissement (24) appropries a la fabrication de filaments de verre en revetant ou enrobant un metal de substrat ou base relativement peut couteux (48) tel que du nickel, de l'Inconel, du molybdene, du cuivre, leurs alliages ou un materiau refractaire avec un materiau resistant a la corrosion a temperature elevee (50) tel qu'un metal noble, p. ex. le platine, le palladium, le rhodium, l'indium, l'or, l'argent ou leurs alliages. Des ailettes (52) peuvent etre fixees aux tubes de refroidissement (24) et peuvent etre fabriquees soit en un metal noble solide soit etre revetues ou enrobees de la meme maniere que les tubes de refroidissement (24).
