(EN)A solar collector, comprising a solar radiation absorbing surface (2), means (4) for transferring heat from the absorbing surface (2) to a heat carrying fluid, a transparent cover (5) spaced apart from the absorbing surface (2), and a convection and heat radiation suppressing structure (6) occupying at least part of the interspace formed between the absorbing surface (2) and the transparent cover (5), said convection and heat radiation suppressing structure (6) being substantially self-supporting and comprising at least two thin, wrinkled transparent foils (7) placed on top of each other, such that adjacent foils (7) between themselves define a system of long narrow ducts (8) extending substantially along the absorbing surface (2).
