(EN)Apparatus for positioning and guiding the opposed edges of sheet metal so that the edges thereof are progressively moved into substantially intimate relationship with one another so that such edges may be subsequently welded to form a seam. The apparatus includes three replaceable elements (24, 25 and 26) that cooperatively form opposed and relatively converging guide channels (46 and 47) which progressively direct the edges of the sheet metal (14) into intimate relationship and maintain such relationship as the sheet metal is introduced into a seam welder (15). The upper and lower guide elements (25 and 26) may be provided with nose portions (62 and 63) which extend outwardly from the discharge end (20) of the central replaceable guide element (24) to a point contiguous to the welder (15). Another object is to provide a method of seam welding opposed edges of sheet metal (14) by constantly urging the edges which are in overlapped relationship into substantially abutting relationship and thereafter welding at a seam welder (15).
(FR)Appareil de positionnement et de guidage des bords opposes de feuilles metalliques de sorte que leurs bords se deplacent progressivement en contact intime en vue de les souder pour former un joint soude. L'appareil comprend trois elements interchangeables (24, 25 et 26) qui cooperent pour former des canaux de guidage opposes et relativement convergents (46 et 47) qui dirigent progressivement les bords de la feuille metallique (14) en relation intime et maintiennent cette relation lors de l'introduction de la feuille metallique dans un appareil de soudure en continu (15). Les elements de guidage superieur et inferieur (25 et 26) peuvent etre pourvus de parties en forme de nez (62 et 63) qui s'etendent vers l'exterieur a partir de l'extremite de decharge (20) de l'element de guidage central interchangeable (24) vers un point contigu au dispositif de soudage (15). Un autre objet est de prevoir un procede de soudage continu des bords opposes d'une feuille metallique (14) en poussant constamment les bords qui ont une relation de chevauchement pour leur donner une relation sensiblement en bout a bout puis a les souder avec un dispositif de soudage en continu (15).
