(EN)An electric space heating system having improved efficiency over conventional heating systems includes a closed conduit (1) containing a liquid which is continuously circulated by a pump (2) through a heat exchange unit (17) contained in the plenum (20) of a hot air duct system through which air is circulated by a blower (21). The liquid is heated by being circulated through a hollow metal jacket (8) enclosed in the thermally insulated housing (5) of a heating unit (4). A pair of electric resistance heating elements (7) are located in the housing (5) in spaced relation to the jacket (8) and are operably connected in circuit with a proportional timer (28) having a cycle of fixed duration composed of an "on" interval and an "off" interval, with the duration of the "on" interval being variable within the cycle. A first temperature sensor (23) acts to operate timer (28) and energize heating elements (7) when the liquid temperature is below a predetermined temperature. A second temperature sensor (25) responsive to the temperature of the liquid being returned to the jacket (8) acts to adjust the "on" interval of the timing cycle of timer (28) in direct proportion to the deviation of the liquid temperature from a predetermined set temperature.
