(EN)Aluminum pieces of various shapes and sizes, up to a certain maximum predetermined size, are introduced upon demand into a reaction chamber (16 or 31) wherein they react with an aqueous electrolyte solution to generate heat, electricity, and an aluminum hydroxide reaction product. The aqueous electrolyte solution is usually strongly acidic or strongly alkaline, but the latter is preferred. The electricity may be generated either directly, with said reaction chamber (16) comprising a packed-bed anode (1) forming part of an electrochemical cell, or indirectly, by first generating hydrogen in said chamber (31), and thereafter consuming the hydrogen in a fuel cell (33). The heat generated in said chamber is carried away by a circulating fluid and used for space-heating and other applications. The aluminum hydroxide reaction product is removed from the system and recycled in the production of fresh aluminum.
(FR)Des pieces d"aluminium de formes et dimensions diverses, jusqu"a une certaine dimension maximum predeterminee, sont introduites sur demande dans une chambre de reaction (16 ou 31) ou elles reagissent avec une solution d"electrolyte aqueux pour produire de la chaleur, de l"electricite, et un produit de reaction d"hydroxyde d"aluminium. La solution d"electrolyte aqueux est generalement fortement acide ou fortement alcaline mais cette derniere est preferable. L"electricite peut etre produite soit directement, avec ladite chambre de reaction (16) comprenant un anode a lit tasse (1) faisant partie d"une cellule electrochimique, soit indirectement, en produisant d"abord de l"hydrogene dans ladite chambre (31), puis en consommant l"hydrogene dans une cellule a combustible (33). La chaleur produite dans ladite chambre est transportee par un fluide de circulation et utilisee pour le chauffage et d"autres applications. Le produit de reaction d"hydroxyde d"aluminium est recupere du systeme et recycle dans la production d"aluminium frais.
