Actinic radiation curable coating compositions are provided applicable to many substrates comprising a pentaorythritol-based polyacrylate or polymethacrylate such as pentaorythritol tetraacrylate, a cellulose ester such as cellulose acetate butyrate and a photoinitiator. The compounds are preferably applied to the substrate by spraying a solution of the composition in one or more solvents selected from the group consisting of lower alcohols and ester, ketones having from 3 to 7 carbon atoms and lower alkyl Cellosolves, and removing the solvents. Upon curing in air the compositions form extremely abrasion resistant coatings on the substrate and are also characterized by being scratch resistant and resistant to attack by chemical and organic solvents.

Des compositions de revetement durcissables aux radiations actiniques peuvent etre appliquees sur de nombreux substrats comprenant un polyacrylate ou polymetacrylate a base de pentaerythritol tel que du tetracylate de pentaerythritol, un ester de cellulose tel que du butyrate d"acetate de cellulose et un photo-initiateur. Les composes sont appliques de preference sur le substrat par atomisation d"une solution de la composition dans un ou plusieurs solvants selectionnes parmi le groupe comprenant des alcools et esters inferieurs, des cetones ayant de 3 a 7 atomes de carbone et des ethers ethylglycoliques alkyle inferieurs et par retrait des solvants. Par durcissement a l"air, les compositions forment des revetements extremement resistants a l"abrasion sur le substrat et sont egalement caracterisees par leur resistance aux rayures et leur resistance a l"attaque chimique et aux solvants organiques.
