(EN)Optical fiber fabrication processes which involve fabrication of glass tubes which form an integral part of optical fiber preforms from which optical fibers are drawn. The glass tubes are fabricated from tubular structures (e.g., 14) comprising amorphous powdery particles. The tubular structures are heated (e.g. by 15) so as to fuse the particles thereby yielding a transparent tubular glass structure of optical fiber quality. During the fusing step, the structure is substantially constrained against shrinkage in both the radial and longitudinal direction thereby yielding a glass tube with improved dimensional characteristics. The so produced glass tube may then be either drawn into an optical fiber or may be collapsed into a rod which then may be drawn immediately or eventually, into the optical fiber.
(FR)L"invention se rapporte aux procedes de preparation de fibres optiques qui impliquent la preparation de tubes de verre qui forment partie integrante de preformes de fibres optiques a partir desquelles les fibres optiques sont etirees. Les tubes de verre sont prepares a partir de structures tubulaires (par ex. par 14) comprenant des particules pulverulentes amorphes. Ces structures tubulaires sont chauffees (par ex. par 15) afin de fondre les particules, fournissant ainsi une structure tubulaire transparente de verre de qualite pour fibre optique. Pendant l"etape de fusion, la structure est pratiquement empechee de se retreindre a la fois en direction radiale et longitudinale et permet d"obtenir un tube de verre possedant des caracteristiques dimensionnelles ameliorees.
