(EN)The process for grinding, polishing or the like curved surfaces of non-metallic solid bodies particularly glass bodies, employs a tool (7) of which the shape is at least partially adapted to that of the surface to be machined and which is pressed against the body to be machined (5) when it is moved. This tool (7) follows the body (5) elastically whereas an abrasive or a flowing polishing composition is continuously fed to the machining space between the tool and the solid body. The device comprises a rotating disc (1) on which the solid body (5) is fixed, and the tool (7) bears elastically against at least part of the surface of the solid body. Preferably, the solid body (5) rotates and the tool is fixed and bears elastically against the solid body.
