(EN)A solar energy collection and conversion system in which a cassegrain minor system (31, 33) is rotated about a diurnal axis, which axis is adjusted for seasonal variations in the incidence of the sun"s rays on the earth"s surface. Along the diurnal axis used for rotation of the collection system an elongate cavity (11, 13) filled with translucent or transparent fluid material is used for direct absorption of the sun"s rays. This is accomplished by providing the wall of this cavity (11, 13) with highly reflective surfaces so that substantially all of the incident solar energy is absorbed directly by the fluid medium and only an insignificant portion is absorbed by the cavity walls (11, 13). The fluid within the cavity may be maintained under extremely high pressures and temperatures in order to utilize this fluid as a heat storage medium. Such heat storage is facilitated by apparatus (175, 179, 187, 197) which permits a change in the volume of the reflective cavity (11, 13) in response to the temperature or pressure of the fluid within the cavity.
(FR)Un systeme de miroir cassegrain (31, 33) est mis en rotation autour d"un axe diurne, lequel est ajuste pour les variations saisonnieres de l"incidence des rayons solaires sur la surface de la terre. Le long de l"axe diurne utilise pour la mise en rotation du systeme collecteur une cavite allongee (11, 13) remplie d"une substance fluide translucide ou transparente est utilisee pour l"absorption directe des rayons solaires. Ceci est effectue en fournissant aux parois de cette cavite (11, 13) des surfaces hautement reflechissantes afin que sensiblement toute l"energie solaire incidente soit absorbee directement par la substance fluide et que seulement une portion insignifiante soit absorbee par les parois de la cavite.
