Abstract

A variable venturi down-draft carburetor comprises a one-piece unitary casting (1) that defines an induction passage and upwardly open cavities constituting a float chamber (3) and a recess (4) in which a movable venturi member (15) is housed. A throttle valve (30), main fuel jet (13), and ventury member are all housed wholly within the confines of the casting, and the casting is covered by a single plate (40) that closes the upwardly open cavities and defines an air inlet orifice to the induction passage. By housing the throttle valve, main jet and venturi in one unit, operation of the carburetor is unaffected by variations in the cover plate produced by manufacturing tolerances. Access to the interior of the carburetor is achieved simply by removal of the plate, which does not, in itself, affect the adjustment of the carburetor. The casting preferably includes integral mountings for a vacuum motor (23), and/or acceleration pump (86), and/or an automatic choke (51).

Un papillon (30), un jet principal de carburant (13) et la piece en forme de venturi sont tous loges entierement a l"interieur des limites du bati, et celui-ci est recouvert par une simple plaque (40) qui ferme les cavites s"ouvrant vers le haut et menage un orifice d"entree d"air vers le passage d"induction En logeant le papillon, le jet principal et le venturi dans une seule unite, le fonctionnement du carburateur n"est pas altere par des variations de la plaque de couverture provenant des tolerances de fabrication. L"acces a l"interieur du carburateur est obtenu simplement par l"enlevement de la plaque, ce qui, en soi, n"affecte pas le reglage du carburateur. Le bati moule comprend, de preference, un moulage integral pour un moteur a depression (23), et/ou une pompe d"acceleration, et/ou un volet d"air automatique.
