(EN)A method for decontaminating and subsequently metallizing a filament comprises: passing the filament through the inner tube (12) of a first chamber (1) for decontamination which comprises two concentric tubes having an annular space (3) therebetween, the inner tube (12) of which has a series of fine holes (16) therein: wherein said inner tube (12) is heated and said annular space (3) contains an inert gas such that said gas flows through said holes (16) in heated jet streams which impinge upon said filament, thereby heating and decontaminating said filament; passing said heated and decontaminated filament into a second chamber (2) for metallization also comprising two concentric tubes (11) and (12) having an annular space (13) therebetween, the inner tube of which has a series of fine holes (16) therein; wherein said inner tube (12) of said second chamber is heated and said annular space (13) of said second chamber (2) contains a gaseous, thermally decomposable metal compound such that said gaseous metal compound flows through said holes (16) in heated jet streams and impinges upon said heated and decontaminated filament thereby thermally decomposing said metal compound and metallizing said filament. An apparatus for carrying out this method is also provided, a key feature of which is the use of a thin membrane (21) with a small pinhole to separate the two chambers.
(FR)Une methode pour decontaminer puis metalliser un filament comprend: le passage du filament a travers le tube interne (12) d"une premiere chambre (1) qui comprend deux tubes concentriques definissant entre eux un espace annulaire, le tube interne (12) presentant une serie de petits orifices (16); ledit tube interne (12) est chauffe et ledit espace annulaire (3) contient un gaz inerte de maniere telle que ce gaz passe au travers des orifices (16) sous forme de jets chauffes qui se heurtent audit filament, chauffant et decontaminant ainsi celui-ci; le passage dudit filament chauffe et decontamine dans une seconde chambre (2) de metallisation comprenant egalement deux tubes concentriques (11 et 12) definissant entre eux un espace annulaire (13), et dont le tube interne presente une serie de petits orifices (16); le tube interne (12) de la seconde chambre est chauffe et l"espace annulaire (13) de cette seconde chambre (2) contient un compose metallique gazeux decomposable thermiquement de sorte que ce compose metallique gazeux passe au travers desdits orifices (16) sous forme de jets, heurte ledit filament chauffe et decontamine, decomposant thermiquement ledit compose metallique et metallisant ledit filament. Un appareil d"application de ce procede est egalement prevu, dont la caracteristique principale reside dans l"utilisation d"une membrane fine (21) ayant un petit trou d"aiguille pour separer les deux chambres.
