(EN)A combination coal liquefaction-gasification process wherein hydrocarbonaceous mineral residue-containing slurry (58) from the liquefaction zone (22, 26) is recycled to the liquefaction zone and all non-recycled hydrocarbonaceous mineral residue-containing slurry (74) is passed to a gasification zone (76) for conversion to synthesis gas to supply hydrogen (92) for the liquefaction zone (22, 26). It has now been discovered that in this process a surprisingly high reaction selectivity in favor of the desired distillate oil product is achieved by combining low liquefaction zone residence times and relatively high rates of recycle of mineral residue-containing slurry compared to feed coal rate. Under these conditions the yield of the desired distillate oil product can be increased to an unexpectedly high level while the yields of both higher and lower boiling products are each being decreased and while hydrogen consumption is being reduced.
(FR)Procede combine de liquefaction et de gazeification du charbon ou des boues contenant un residu mineral hydrocarbure (58) provenant de la zone de liquefaction (22, 26) sont recycles vers la zone de liquefaction et ou toutes les boues contenant un residu mineral hydrocarbure (74) passent dans une zone de gazeification (76) pour leur conversion en gaz de synthese pour alimenter en hydrogene (92) la zone de liquefaction (22, 26). On a decouvert que dans ce procede une selectivite reactionnelle etonnamment elevee en faveur des produits petroliers de distillation desiree est obtenue en combinant des temps courts de sejour dans la zone de liquefaction et des vitesses relativement elevees de recyclage des boues contenant le residu mineral comparees a la vitesse d"alimentation du charbon. Dans ces conditions, la production des produits petroliers de distillation desiree peut etre augmentee jusqu"a atteindre un niveau tres elevee tandis que les productions de produits de points d"ebullition superieur et inferieur sont diminuees et la consommation d"hydrogene est reduite.
