(EN)Use of an aqueous solution of a silicate as a binder, particularly for hardening foundry molds and cores without the use of acid or other reagents to convert the silicate into a silica gel. According to the present invention, the silicate binder is not reacted but instead is rapidly dried, preferably enough within the space of 5 seconds to 10 minutes to reduce the initial water content of the aqueous silicate solution by at least 25%. In the preferred embodiments, this is achieved by forcing air through opposed porous sides (1-2) of the mold box and the green sand contained therein. The present invention is also applicable to other composite forms such as the manufacture of plywood, particle board, briquettes, and the like.
(FR)Une solution aqueuse d"un silicate est utilise comme liant, en particulier pour durcir les moules et les noyaux de fonderie sans utiliser de l"acide ou d"autres reactifs de convertir le silicate en un gel de silice. Le liant de silicate ne participe pas a la reaction mais au contraire est seche rapidement de preference suffisamment dans un espace de temps de cinq secondes a dix minutes pour reduire la teneur en eau initiale de la solution aqueuse de silicate d"au moins 25%. Dans les modes preferentiels de realisation, ceci est obtenu en forcant de l"air au travers des parois laterales poreuses opposees (1-2) de la boite de moule et au travers du sable qu"elle contient. L"invention s"applique egalement a d"autres materiaux composites telles que la fabrication de contre-plaque, des planches particulieres, des briquettes, etc.
