(EN)An automatically controlled exercise machine which is intended to produce optimal development of skeletal muscle strength for athletic purposes and in physical rehabilitation. The mechanical configuration of this machine is based on a linkage comprised of a series of links (1, 2) connected together so as to allow movement of each link relative to another. Each link is provided with a separate powering device (7, 10) which drives it relative to another link. This linkage interacts with the user by means of various removable attachments (3) located on the outermost link (2). These independent powering devices are controlled by a feedback control system (Fig. 3), so that the user interaction point moves along any specified path in response to forces exerted by the user, and simultaneously provides resisting forces which vary in any desired manner according to position, speed, time, and user-exerted forces.
(FR)Une machine pour exercice commandee automatiquement est destinee a assurer le developpement optimal de la resistance musculaire dans les domaines de l"athletisme et de la rehabilitation physique. La configuration mecanique de cette machine repose sur un assemblage comprend une serie de tiges d"assemblage 1, 2 reliees ensemble de maniere a permettre le mouvement de chacune de ces tiges l"une par rapport a l"autre. Chaque tige possede un dispositif de puissance separe (7, 10) qui l"entraine l"une par rapport a l"autre. Cet assemblage de tiges est en interaction avec l"usager au moyen de diverses attaches amovibles (3) situees sur la tige la plus extreme (2). Ces dispositifs de puissance independants sont commandes par un systeme de commande a retro-action (FIG. 3), de sorte que le poids d"interaction de l"usager se deplace suivant des chemins specifiques en fonction des forces exercees par l"usager, et fournit simultanement des forces de resistance qui varient a volonte selon la position, la vitesse, le temps et les forces exercees par l"usager.
