(EN)The known technique for manufacturing porous glass with closed pores, wherein the glass foam is rapidly cooled and nearly frozen, gives a relatively thin pore glass. Nevertheless, in order to improve the thermal insulation characteristics of the porous glass, which are essential when it is used as construction and insulating material, a relatively coarse porous structure is desired. To obtain such a structure, the glass foam is submitted to inflation until most part of the lamillar walls situated between the different bubbles of the foam are tom and a plurality of neighbouring bubbles merge into a single cavity. During inflation, the influence of heat on the glass foam is maintained after its formation and/or the ratio between the average gas pressure in the foam bubbles and the pressure acting from outside on the foam is raised to a value higher than the value of this ratio obtained with the formation of the foam and/or the surface tension of the glass forming the lamellar walls, opposing to the gas being in the bubbles of the foam as well as the resistance to the glass pressure are brought down to values lower than those obtained with the formation of the foam.
(FR)La technique connue de fabrication du verre poreux a pores fermes, dans laquelle la mousse de verre est rapidement refroidie et par la pour ainsi dire congelee, conduit a un verre a pores relativement fins. Cependant, afin que les proprietes d"isolation thermique du verre poreux, qui sont essentielles pour son utilisation comme materiau de construction et d"isolation, soient meilleures, une structure poreuse relativement grossiere est souhaitable. Pour obtenir une telle structure, la mousse de verre est soumise a un gonflage jusqu"a ce que la plus grande partie des parois lamellaires situees entre les differentes bulles de la mousse soit dechiree et qu"une pluralite de bulles voisines se soit confondue en une seule cavite. Lors du gonflage, l"influence de la chaleur sur la mousse de verre est maintenue apres sa formation et/ou le rapport entre la pression moyenne du gaz dans les bulles de la mousse et la pression agissant de l"exterieur sur la mousse et/ou la tension superficielle du verre constituant les parois lamellaires, s"opposant au gaz se trouvant dans les bulles de la mousse, ainsi que la resistance a la pression du verre sont portees a des valeurs inferieures a celles obtenues avec la formation de la mousse.
