Title (EN) COLLAPSIBLE COAT HANGER
(FR) PORTEMANTEAU REPLIABLE
Abstract:
(EN) A coat hanger has first and second arms (11, 12) and a hook (14) mutually pivoted on a pin (13) so as to rotate relative to one another for folding from a use configuration to a storage configuration. The pivot pin engages one of the aims (11) through a slot (25) extending in the arm permitting the arm to slide relative to the pin to engage a projection (26) on the arm with an abutment on the other arm, thereby holding the coat hanger in its open configuration. Near the free end of each arm a longitudinally extending slot (33, 34) defines a tab (35, 36). When the arms are folded the slots mutually engage allowing the arms to overlie one another with the tab (34) of the first arm (11) engaging the outer surface (31) of the second arm (12) while the tab (35) of the second arm (12) engages the inner surface of the first arm (11). A flange (40) on the first arm prevents reverse folding motion, and a compression washer (15) provides a friction joint. This construction provides for the interlocking of the arms together when the hanger is in a folded condition rather than permitting them to dangle or hang down in their collapsed state.
