Abstract

A fluid coupling device is disclosed of the type including a valve member (41) actuated by a valve shaft (39) extending through the cover (35), the position of the valve (41) and valve shaft (39) being controlled by a temperature responsive bimetal coil (43). The coil (43) has a first end (45) attached to the valve shaft (39) and a second end (47) received within a clip member (53) to prevent circumferential movement of the second end (47) of the coil (43). The clip member (53) includes wing portions (57) (59) which are generally parallel to the adjacent surface of the cover (35). After the clip (53) and the bimetal coil (43) are assembled, the coil (43) is premitted to achieve its neutral position in both the radial and circumferential direction, and subsequently, each of the wing portions (57) (59) is attached to the adjacent portion of the cover (35) without causing substantial radial or circumferential movement of the second end (47) of the coil (43). As a result, the coil (43) is able to withstand extreme vibration conditions, but is not subject to the high hysteres is which normally occurs with a rigid mounting of the coil (43).

Dispositif d"accouplement fluidique a soupape (41) actionnee par une tige de soupape (39) s"etendant a travers le couvercle (35), la position de la soupape (41) et de la tige de soupape (39) etant commandee par une spirale bimetallique sensible a la temperature (43). La spirale (43) possede une premiere extremite (45) attachee a la tige de soupape (39) et une seconde extremite (47) recue dans un element d"attache (53) pour empecher un mouvement circonferentiel de la seconde extremite (47) de la spirale (43) de se produire. L"element d"attache (53) comprend des ailettes (57) (59) qui sont paralleles a la surface adjacente du couvercle (35). Apres assemblage de l"attache (53) et de la spirale bimetallique (43), la spirale (43) peut prendre sa position neutre dans le sens radial et dans le sens circonferentiel, apres quoi, chacune des ailettes (57) (59) est attachee a la partie adjacente au couvercle (35) sans provoquer un mouvement radial ou circonferentiel sensible de la seconde extremite (47) de la spirale (43). Il en resulte que la spirale (43) peut supporter des conditions de vibrations extremes, mais elle n"est pas soumise aux phenomenes d"hysteresis qui se produisent normalement avec un montage rigide de la spirale (43).
