(EN)A novel high strength steel especially adapted for automotive applications and the like is provided by cold rolling a low carbon aluminum-killed steel containing added phosphorus and silicon as ferrite strengtheners, continuously heating the cold rolled strip to an inter-critical temperature such that from about 5% to about 25% austenite is present, water quenching to obtain a dual phase ferrite-martensite microstructure having an average volume fraction of martensite of from about 5% to about 25%, and reheating to a sub-critical temperature to temper the steel. The resultant steel has good formability as evidenced by a minimum total elongation of 18%, is free from ductility loss due to room temperature aging, and after stamping followed by a typical paint bake cycle the formed part has a minimum yield strength of 550 MPa (80 ksi).
(FR)Un acier nouveau a haute resistance specialement adapte aux applications automotrices et analogues, est produit par laminage a froid d"un acier debarrasse d"aluminium, a faible teneur en carbone, au quel on ajoute du phosphore et du silicium qui agissent comme des durcisseurs de ferrite, par chauffage continu du feuillard lamine a froid jusqu"a une temperature inter-critique telle que l"on obtienne de 5% a 25% environ d"austenite, par trempe a l"eau pour obtenir une microstructure ferrite-martensite ayant une quantite moyenne de martensite de 5% a 25% environ en volume, puis par chauffage jusqu"a une temperature sub-critique pour faire revenir l"acier. L"acier resultant possede une bonne formabilite comme le prouve son allongement total minimum de 18%, est exempt de perte de ductilite due au vieillissement a temperature ambiante, et apres estampage suivi d"une peinture au four, la piece formee possede une limite elastique minimum de 550 MPa (80 ksi).
