(EN)Such mixtures are separated by introducing them to a suspension of magnetic particles in liquid, the particles being of such size that they would tend to flocculate if exposed to a simple constant or alternating magnetic field. Flocculation is however inhibited by causing the particles to spin, a magnetic fluid may be applied to enhance the density of the fluid relative to the mixture, and different constituents of the mixture either float or sink and are separately collected. The spin may be imparted by a travelling or rotating magnetic field, which may also serve as the means for creating the enhanced relative density. The travelling field may be provided by a linear magnetic stator (6) with polyphase windings excited from a suitable AC supply (7).
(FR)De tels melanges sont separes en les introduisant dans une suspension de particules magnetiques en milieu liquide, les particules ayant des dimensions telles qu"elles auraient tendance a floculer si elles etaient soumises a un simple champ magnetique constant ou alternatif. On inhibe cependant la floculation en imprimant aux particules un mouvement de rotation; on peut utiliser un fluide magnetique pour augmenter la densite du fluide par rapport au melange. Les differents constituants du melange flottent ou coulent et sont recuperes separement. La rotation peut etre induite par un champ en translation ou tournant, qui peut aussi servir pour obtenir la densite relative accrue. Le champ en translation etre fourni par un stator magnetique lineaire (6) avec des enroulements polyphases excites par une alimentation en courant alternatif approprie (7).
