Title (EN) DETECTION AND LOCALIZATION OF NEUTRAL RADIATIONS
(FR) DETECTION ET LOCALISATION DE RAYONNEMENTS NEUTRES
Abstract: front page image
(EN)Device for detecting and localizing soft gamma rays and X-rays, comprising a housing (10) having a window (11) opaque to light and transparent to incident rays filled with a noble gas and provided with electrodes (11 16, 17) intended for causing the electrons to drift towards a space of generation of secondary photons. In said space, an electrical field of sufficient intensity prevails so as to cause the formation of secondary photons by excitation and de-excitation of the atom of the noble gas. The secondary photons go through a transparent window (12) and are converted into photons in the near UV or the visible. The scintillations are localized by photomultiplier tubes (23) and (24).
