(EN)Zwitterionic compounds of the general formula: (FORMULA) (wherein R represents CH2 = C-A2-(R1 is H or CH3; A1 is COOCH2, CH2OCH2 or CONHCH2) or hydrocarbon radical; R2 represents H or CH3; B+ represents (FORMULA) (wherein R6 R7 and R8 respectively represent a divalent organic radical; R9 represents a trivalent organic radical; R10 R11 and R12 may either represent a hydrocarbon radical respectively or be linked to form a heterocycle; R13 represents H or CH3; R14 represents a hydrocarbon radical; A2 may either represent a radical of (CH2)mOCO, (CH2)mNHCO and (CH2)m or form a heterocycle together with R14; m is an integer of 1 to 4 and n is an integer of 1 to 3)) may be produced by reacting an oxylanic compound, sulfur dioxide and a tertiary amine. The zwiterrionic compounds have an excellent surface activity.
