There is provided a method comprising encoding an uncompressed constituent frame into a first encoded picture, said encoding also resulting into a reconstructed first picture and said constituent frame having an effective picture area within the first reconstructed picture, performing either of the following as a part of said encoding: inserting at least one sample value outside the effective picture area to form a boundary extension for the constituent frame in the reconstructed first picture; or saturating or wrapping oversample locations outside the effective picture area to be within the effective picture area. There is also provided a method comprising receiving an encoded picture, decoding the encoded picture to form a reconstructed constituent frame of the picture having an effective picture area;and performing either of the following: filling an area outside the effective picture area to produce a padded reference picture, wherein the filled area forms a boundary extension; or determining that when referring to sample locations outside the effective picture area in decoding, said sample locations are saturated or wrapped over to be within the effective picture area.

Se proporciona un método que comprende codificar un fotograma constituyente no comprimido en una primera instantánea codificada, dando como resultado dicha codificación también una primera instantánea reconstruida y teniendo dicho fotograma constituyente un área de instantánea efectiva dentro de la primera instantánea reconstruida, realizar cualquiera de lo siguiente como parte de dicha codificación: insertar al menos un valor de muestra fuera del área de instantánea efectiva para formar una extensión de límite para el fotograma constituyente en la primera instantánea reconstruida; o saturar o envolver localizaciones de muestra fuera del área de instantánea efectiva para que estén dentro del área de instantánea efectiva. Se proporciona también un método que comprende recibir una instantánea codificada, decodificar la instantánea codificada para formar un fotograma constituyente reconstruido de la instantánea que tiene un área de instantánea efectiva; y realizar cualquiera de lo siguiente: rellenar un área fuera del área de instantánea efectiva para producir una instantánea de referencia rellenada, en donde el área llenada forma una extensión de límite; o determinar que cuando se hace referencia en la decodificación a localizaciones de muestra fuera del área de instantánea efectiva, dichas localizaciones de muestra están saturadas o envueltas para estar en el área de instantánea efectiva.
