PURPOSE: A manufacturing method of α-methyl styrene is provided to improve the output of α-methyl styrene, to control the output of α-methyl styrene by controlling the inserted amount of cumene hydroperoxide stream by hydrogenation. CONSTITUTION: A manufacturing method of α-methyl styrene comprises: a step of manufacturing cumene hydroperoxide stream by oxidizing cumene; a step of separating at least a part of the cumene hydroperoxide stream without concentration; a step of manufacturing cumyl alcohol by selective hydrogenation of the concentrate separated under the presence of precious metal; a step of concentrating reactant comprising the cumyl alcohol; and a step of manufacturing a product comprising α-methyl styrene by dehydration of the concentrate under the presence of an a acid catalyst. 본 발명은 낮은 농도 및 온도의 최대한 안정화된 조건에서 페놀 제조 공정에서 쿠멘의 산화로 얻어진 쿠멘 하이드로퍼옥사이드의 선택적 수소화 공정을 통해, 농도 증가에 따른 쿠멘 하이드로퍼옥사이드의 수소화 반응시 폭발 위험성을 낮추고 선택도를 90% 이상으로 향상시켜 쿠밀 알코올로의 양을 늘림으로써 알파 메틸 스티렌의 양을 선택적으로 증가시키고 쿠멘 하이드로퍼옥사이드의 양을 제어하여 알파 메틸 스티렌의 생산량을 시장 수요에 맞게 제어할 수 있는 알파 메틸 스티렌의 제조방법에 관한 것이다.
