The electronic device for protecting personal information of a user comprises: a communication unit; an output unit; a memory storing one or more instructions; and a processor executing the one or more instructions stored in the memory. The processor acquires policy data showing personal information processing policy of the user related to a service provided on the electronic device, identifies a first personal information to be used for providing the service from the acquired policy data, identifies a second personal information set to be used by an application from an execution file of the application providing the service, identifies a third personal information used by the application while the application is being executed, compares the first personal information identified from the policy data, the second personal information identified from the execution file of the application, and the third personal information used by the application, and determines an operation of the electronic device for protecting the personal information of the user based on the results of comparison.
