The present invention relates to a catalyst, which can be obtained through a simple post-treatment process for a crude catalyst and has excellent catalytic activity, a method for preparing the same, an electrode including the same, a membrane-electrode assembly including the same, and a fuel cell including the same. The catalyst includes: a carrier; and metal particles supported on the carrier. The metal particles include: main particles; and additional metal layers on the main particles, wherein the main particles and the additional metal layers include the same metal, and the additional metal layers are formed through the growth of only a specific active lattice surface of the main particles so that the metal particles may have a budding structure or a rod-like structure, or the additional metal layers are formed through the growth of the whole active lattice surface of the main particles so that the main particles may have a core-shell structure. 미가공 촉매에 대한 간단한 후처리 공정을 통해 얻어질 수 있는 우수한 촉매 활성을 갖는 촉매, 그 제조방법, 그것을 포함하는 전극, 그것을 포함하는 막-전극 어셈블리, 및 그것을 포함하는 연료 전지가 개시된다. 본 발명의 촉매는, 담체; 및 상기 담체 상에 담지되어 있는 금속 입자를 포함하되, 상기 금속 입자는, 메인 입자; 및 상기 메인 입자 상의 추가 금속 층(additional metal layer)을 포함하며, 상기 메인 입자와 상기 추가 금속 층은 동일한 금속 원소를 포함하고, 상기 메인 입자의 특정 활성 격자면만 성장하여 상기 추가 금속 층이 형성됨으로써 상기 금속 입자가 버딩(budding) 구조 또는 막대(rod) 구조를 갖거나, 상기 메인 입자의 전체 활성 격자면이 성장하여 상기 추가 금속 층이 형성됨으로써 상기 금속 입자가 코어-쉘(core-shell) 구조를 갖는다.
