An optical recording medium comprising at least a recording layer (2), a recording auxiliary layer (5), a reflecting layer (3) and a protective layer (4) provided on a transparent substrate (1) in this order. The recording layer and the recording auxiliary layer are mainly made of an organic dye. Recording and/or reproduction can be performed with a laser beam having a wavelength λ 1 or with a laser beam having a wavelength of λ2 shorter than the wavelength λ1. The recording layer has a spectroscopic absorbance of 5 to 35 % for the wavelength λ1 and 15 % or more for the wavelength λ2. The recording auxiliary layer has a peak of the spectroscopic reflectance in the vicinity of the wavelength λ2.

(KO) 광기록 매체는 투광성기판(1)상에 적어도 기록층(2), 기록보조층(5), 반사층(3) 및 보호층(4)을 구비하였고, 상기 기록층과 기록보조층이 유기색소를 주성분으로 하는 층이며, 파장의 레이저광을 사용하여 기록 및/또는 재생이 가능하고, 또, 파장(λ1)으로부터 단파장측이 파장(λ2)의 레이저광을 사용하여 기록 및/또는 재생이 가능하며, 또한 상기 기록층 분광흡수율이 파장(λ1)에 있어서 5∼35 %, (λ2)에 있어서 15 % 이상이며, 나아가서 상기 기록보조층이 파장(λ2)의 근방에 분광반사율의 최고를 갖는다.
