본 발명에 따른 연료 전지(100)는 산화제 유동 판(212), 캐소드 촉매 층(222)을 갖는 인접한 캐소드 기판 층(216) 그리고 액체 전해질(230)을 보유하는 매트릭스(224)를 포함하고, 매트릭스(224)는 캐소드 촉매 층(222) 및 애노드 촉매 층(232)에 인접하게 그리고 이들 사이에 고정된다. 제1 애노드 기판 층(102)이 애노드 촉매 층(232)에 인접하게 고정되고, 적어도 제2 복제 애노드 기판 층(108)이 제1 애노드 기판 층(102)에 인접하게 고정되어 액체 전해질(230)의 저장을 위한 더 큰 공극 체적을 제공하고 애노드 기판 층(102, 108)의 공극 체적의 차단을 제한한다. 복제 애노드 기판 층(108)에는 연료 전지(100)의 수명 시작 시의 액체 전해질(230)이 부분적으로 충전될 수 있다.
