(KO) 리튬 이온 배터리들 내 캐소드 전극들(cathode electrodes) 내에서 이용될 수 있는 황 함유 나노입자들(sulfur containing nanoparticles)이 첫 번째 예에서 황 재료가 주입된 다공성 탄소 형태 재료들(porous carbon shape materials)(즉, 나노입자 형태들 또는 다음에 나노입자 형태들로 그라인딩(grinding)되는 "벌크(bulk)" 형태들)을 포함한다. 이들 탄소 및 황 함유 나노입자들에 대한 합성 경로는, 공동 탄소 형태 쉘(hollow carbon shape shell)을 형성하기 위한 템플릿 나노입자들, 및 뒤이어 황 재료로 상기 공동 탄소 형태 쉘의 주입(infusion) 전에 상기 템플릿 나노입자의 용해(dissolution)를 이용할 수 있다. 공동이 없는 다른 다공성 탄소 형태들에 황 주입이 또한 고려된다. 두 번째 유형의 황 함유 나노입자는 금속 산화물 재료 코어(metal oxide material core)를 포함하고, 그 위에 가황된 폴리멀티엔 폴리머 재료 및 이온 전도 폴리머 재료(vulcanized polymultiene polymer material and ion conducting polymer material)를 포함하는 쉘 층(shell layer)이 위치된다. 앞서의 황 함유 나노입자 재료들은 전극들과 리튬 이온 배터리들에 향상된 성능을 제공한다.
