本発明は、ミトコンドリアでのATP産生を増加することを目的とする新規な細胞透過性サクシネート及びサクシネートの細胞透過性前駆体を提供する。真核細胞内で産生され利用されるATPの主要部分は、クレブス回路による高エネルギー電子の提供先のプロセスであるミトコンドリアの酸化的リン酸化に由来する。クレブス回路中間体の全てが細胞膜易透過性であるわけではなく、サクシネートはその1種である。新規な細胞透過性サクシネートを提供することにより、細胞膜の通過を可能とすることが想定され、従って、該細胞透過性サクシネートは、ミトコンドリアのATP産出を増強するために使用可能である。
