本明細書に開示されたエネルギー吸収装置は単一で多様な範囲にわたる用途を兼ね備える。エネルギー吸収装置は、単一のショックアブソーバ内における様々な構成要素(例えば、ピストンヘッド、ショックチューブ、シリンダ端、外部シリンダ、調節機構)の間の相互作用の新規な組み合わせとして開示される。本明細書に開示された構成要素を併せて検討し、相互に関連する単一のアセンブリとして設計することで、単一の装置内において多様な範囲にわたる用途を兼ね備えることが可能になる。ダッシュポット、矩形波、進行波、自己補正減衰を単一の装置内に兼ね備える技術は、調節可能な装置内において入力速度パフォーマンスに対比したほぼ直線的な減衰力を送達する技術として前例がない。開示された装置はユーザのサイズ計算及びサイズ決定を容易にし、且つ、ユーザがショックアブソーバを例えば調節つまみの回転によって特定の用途に調節することを可能にする。
