PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient manufacturing method of various aromatic compounds which are useful as intermediates of medicines, agrichemicals, and commodity chemicals, by dissolving problems regarding to Smiles rearrangement reaction and applying the resultant Smiles reaction.

SOLUTION: The compound is represented by formula (I) (wherein ring A represents an aromatic isocyclic or heterocyclic ring and it may have a substituent. X represents -O- or the like and Y represents -NR1- or the like, and B represents an aromatic isocyclic or heterocyclic ring and it may have a substituent, or an ethylene group which may be substituted). The method for manufacturing the above compound or its salt wherein the compound or its salt is subjected to Smiles rearrangement reaction, characterized in that the Smiles rearrangement reaction is carried out in an amide solvent in the presence of a basic hydroxide.

【課題】スマイルス転位反応における問題を解決し、医薬、農薬、あるいは多くの汎用化学品の製造中間体として有用な種々の芳香族化合物を、スマイルス転位反応を利用して効率よく製造する方法を提供する。
【解決手段】式(I)

[式中、A環は置換基を有していてもよい芳香族同素または複素環を示す。Xは−O−などを、Yは−NR1−などを示す。Bは置換基を有していてもよい芳香族同素または複素環、あるいは置換されていてもよいエチレン基を示す。]で表される化合物またはその塩をスマイルス転位反応に付す置換芳香族化合物またはその塩の製造法であって、塩基性の水酸化物の存在下、アミド系溶媒中でスマイルス転位反応を行うことを特徴とする置換芳香族化合物またはその塩の製造法。
