トラック内又は二次元パターン内に情報を記録するとき、隣接するトラック又はピットを照射しないような注意がなされなければならない。順守されるべきトラックピッチ又はピット距離の故に、これは記録媒体上のデータ密度の損失を招く。レーザの焦点が隣接するランド領域、及び、トラック又はピットも照射する地点までトラックピッチを減少することが可能である。これは記録媒体の達成可能なデータ密度を増大する。グルーブを用いることによって、及び/又は、特定の吸収特性を備える線量を用いることによって、隣接するトラック又はピットの照射の効果も減少可能であり、所望の場所内のマークのみを効果的に記録する。
