1層以上のポリマーからなる第一層及び、1層以上のポリマーからなる第二層を有する多層補償子を提供する。前記第一層は、−0.01以上、+0.01以下の面外複屈折(Δnth)を示すポリマーを有する。前記第二層は、−0.01より負であるか、又は、+0.01より正である面外複屈折を示す非晶性ポリマーを有する。多層補償子全体の面内レターデーション(Rin)は+20nmより正であり、かつ全体の面外レターデーション(Rth)が−20nmより負であるか、又は、+20nmより正である。前記1層以上の第一層の面内レターデーション(Rin)は、前記の多層補償子の全体の面内レターデーションの30%以下である。
