Provided are a graphite-containing refractory article which has a higher flexural strength and fracture energy than those of conventional refractory articles and a method for manufacturing the refractory article. This graphite-containing refractory article has a graphite content ranging from 1 mass% to 80 mass% and has disposed therein a carbon fiber bundle that has a length of 100 mm or more and that is obtained by bundling 1000-300000 strands of a carbon fiber having a fiber diameter ranging from 1 µm/strand to 45 µm/ strand.
