Abstract
(EN) 2889. Munro, E. M., and Railless Electric Traction Co. Feb. 4. Shoe collectors.-Collectors for railless vehicles running over ordinary tramway systems have a pilot member adapted to enter the rail groove and one or more contact-making members mounted on a frame pivotally connected to the pilot member and arranged to follow the pilot member in the rail groove. The pilot member C, having its lower end shaped to fit the rail groove, is carried by a head A<1> connected to the vehicle by a trailing arm B. The pilot member pivotally carries a yoke E, the arms of which are pivotally connected to the side members of a frame F carrying a contact-wheel G. A second frame K, pivoted on the axle of the wheel G and under control of the spring L<3>, carries another contact-maker L in the form of a laminated brush or carbon block shaped to fit the rail groove. All three members are conducting elements, but, if desired, the contact L may be dispensed with. When necessary, the collector may be raised from the rail and hung under the vehicle by means of the ring M. To reduce friction, the pilot member may be provided at its lower end with a wheel. This arrangement permits the vehicles to have considerable movement laterally without derailing the collecting-members.
